This is why OLEDs look so amazing when you do side by side comparisons on a laptop or tablet, mobile IPS panels don't have local dimming & are optimized for power savings, not contrast.
I have OLED laptop, tablet & phone all of which are all way better than LCD counterparts but when it comes to TVs, local dimming + panel advancements have boosted LCD performance to levels never seen on smaller devices.ĪFAIK, there has never been local dimming on a laptop or phone and basically all implementations on monitors were trash with too few zones. That was my opinion as well which is why I was waiting for 77' OLED to became affordable but that all changed when I got this 75' IPS TV. IPS LED does not compare to OLED in terms of viewing angles.Īt 77' the decision is more complicated but I would still hold out for a deal on OLED, personally. You basically get a perfect picture with OLED whereas LED based TVs have all sorts of issues that take away from the experience. OLED wipes the floor with LED across a number of metrics (contrast, viewing angles, motion, black level, uniformity, per pixel local dimming, etc.). My take is actually that OLED provides such competition to LED based TVs that I personally don't feel that most people should even be purchasing LED based TVs these days.
